Armani, COS, Tod's: the fashion brands taking part in 2019 Milan Design Week

Taking place between April 9 and 14 this year, Milan Design Week sees some of fashion's biggest names venturing into the world of design. Here are 5 exhibitions and installations hosted by fashion labels and houses to discover across the Italian city.

"Conifera" by COS x Arthur Mamou-Mani

This year, COS has teamed up with French architect Arthur Mamou-Mani to create the installation "Conifera" --which marks the fashion house's eighth Salone del Mobile residence. The 25 meter-long installation comprises more than 700 truncated pyramids, which were printed in 3D over a period of four months. Starting outside the Palazzo Isimbardi, the structure extends out into the garden beyond -- shifting from wood color to translucent bioplastic.

"Adjacent Field" by Jil Sander x Linda Tegg

To introduce the new line of the house, the Jil Sander+ collection, artist Linda Tegg conceived a large installation of plants picked from abandoned sites in the area of Milan. The exhibition -- on view in Jil Sander's Milanese headquarters -- will feature a list of species that Tegg has sourced with the help of garden designer Matteo Foschi.

In addition, five large-scale field photographs, taken by Tegg's collaborator David Fox, will be displayed in the windows of Jil Sander's Milanese flagship store -- offering an alternative view of the installation.

"The Challenge - Tadao Ando" at Armani/Silos

For this year's Salone del Mobile, Giorgio Armani inaugurated its exhibition on Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando. The project is a redesigned version of the major retrospective on the Japanese architect held last year at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It displays Ando's most significant works, including his plans for Armani/Teatro.

"The Challenge - Tadao Ando" is on view from April 9 to Ju ly 28 in the exhibition space Armani/Silos. More information are available on the museum's official website: www.armanisilos.com

"The Green Life" by Rinascente x Sabine Marcelis

Now in its second edition, "The Green Life" sees Sabine Marcelis transforming the department store Rinascente into a verdant oasis, featuring a variety of flowers and plants. In Rinascente's flagship store in the Piazza Duomo, the Dutch artist created a boulevard of 16th century olive trees arranged on platforms -- as an homage to Italian vegetation. Eight sculptures from Marcelis are also on display in Rinascente's windows. The installation continues inside the department store with "Plants are in the Air."

"The Green Life" is on view from April 5 to 22 at Rinascente Milan.

"No_Code Shelter: Stories of Contemporary Life" by Tod's x Studio Andrea Caputo

Conceived by Studio Andrea Caputo, "No_Code Shelter" features five shelters -- named "Yurt," "Persian Camp," "Museum," "Pitched Hut" and "Casamance" -- in which visitors can wander at will. Inside each, a video interview of th e building's designer is on view. Among the interviewees are Japanese art director Mai Ikuzawa, American car designer Chris Bangle and Italian illustrator Olimpia Zagnoli.

"No_Code Shelter: Stories of Contemporary Life" is on view from April 9 to 14 at Spazio Cavallerizze. Visit Tod's website (www.tods.com) for additional information.
